Having grown up in Fullerton, but now happily residing in Chicago, I think the numbers do speak for themselves; however, being Republican and being wealthy are two different things; if you look at the blue vs the red states, it appears that the more affluent and educated states went democrat, the less affluent and less educated went republican. Issues such as abortion, religion, homosexuality, and liberal causes are the lightning rod, not the amount of money one may have. With education, many times comes tolerance, not a republican theme or agenda.

Well the numbers speak for themselves...Bush got 60% of O.C.'s votes. Barbara Boxer lost in OC to Bill Jones, and the county has one Democratic Rep to Congress (Loretta Sanchez)...The OC is far from becoming Flamming Liberal.

When my husband and I moved to Mission Viejo from Irvine, we definitely noticed
how much more "Republican", conservative, and religious our new neighbors were.
The land of soccer moms, business owners, too many real estate agents, and where everything closes at 9pm! At least Irvine had the UCI campus giving it a shot of liberalism and infusing it with the students' different ethnicities/cultures.

Mission Viejo isn't as "rich" as Newport Beach, so being "wealthy" doesn't necessarily
translate to being conservative and Republican. Perhaps more aptly its residents
take to the GOP because they are a more racially homogeneous, religious, law-abiding, family-oriented group desiring fewer taxes.

It's a mixed bag as far as I know, but I gotta admit I haven't really thought about it before. I think the people here are transplants from all over. I'm part of three Yahoo groups dedicated to the area and neighborhoods here... every once in a while someone pops up a political comment in the message area and there's a bit of excitement, so I'd say we got all types here.

Since you live out there, you're probably in a better position to determine the political scene in the 909. What's your feeling on the matter?

Do you think a study might reveal that the conservatives moved out to Riverside and San Bernardino counties? Just a thought.
